Eliminating Fossil Fuels

Fossil fuels damage our climate, our health, our communities, and our natural resources

Fighting New Fossil Fuel Infrastructure in Pennsylvania

In order to prevent the worst impacts of climate change, we must cut our emissions in half by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050, according to the 2019 IPCC report.

We can only reach that goal if we stop building additional fossil fuel infrastructure that would lock in decades more emissions and exacerbate global warming.

Fossil Fuels Damage Public Health

Fossil fuels don’t just cause climate change, they also pollute our air and water in ways that have enormous public health consequences.

The annual health cost of climate change and fossil fuel pollution in America is $820 billion.

Pennsylvania is Ground Zero in the Fight Against Fossil Fuels

Pennsylvania ranks 5th in the country in GHG emissions

Through the years, coal, oil, and natural gas have all played a key part in Pennsylvania’s story and heritage. Today, these fossil energy sources pose a major threat to our shared future.

Pennsylvania is now the second-largest fossil gas producing state in the country. Pennsylvania politicians continue to subsidize and rubber stamp new and dangerous fossil fuel projects. It’s time for lawmakers and residents to reject these projects and embrace policies that promote a proven and measured transition away from dirty energy.

Here’s how the Clean Air Action Fund is fighting to eliminate fossil fuels in Pennsylvania

  • Defending Pennsylvania’s participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative

  • Pushing Philadelphia Gas Works to transition to a sustainable future

  • Opposing tax breaks for the oil and gas industries

  • Helping local governments create climate action plans

  • Advocating for the plugging of abandoned wells
